The Day After I Launched my Blog, the Power Went Out

2020 has been an interesting year. I sort of can’t believe where I am now.

#SAVEEVENTS

The live events industry is currently facing a crisis.

I started to realize the impact that COVID-19 would have on the industry back in March. According to the latest average found by the Live Events Coalition, 85% of employees were furloughed almost overnight. We were the first to shut down and will likely be the last to reopen.

NEXT STEPS

That circumstance prompted me to start this blog in the first place (read more on that in my first Letter, Embracing Change). So inherently, All the Best Moments may have never come to fruition if it weren’t for the time I was given to launch it.

Resolving with myself to not allow a setback become a reason to stop pursuing my goals, is what motivated me to pivot, and keep going.

After five months of research, writing, technical logistics and outreach, I was finally able to share this project on its official launch date; August 3, 2020.

The day after it launched, a tropical storm knocked the power out. I can’t make this stuff up! It put a full halt on monitoring analytics, a marketing project that I was right in the middle of, and my ongoing to-do list.

Obviously, like anyone who just launched a blog may react, I freaked out when the power shut down. But, recounting the way I felt back in March motivated me to keep the ball rolling. Now here I am, at 9:43pm, writing this Letter on the Notes app.

FULL CIRCLE

I had been so focused on the launch, that if it weren’t for the power outage, I doubt I would’ve written any blog posts this week. It’s a lesson that I continue to learn… “You can’t always control what happens, but you can control how you react.”

Whatever setback is in your way, don’t let it stop you from moving towards your goals. We can’t predict the future, or change the past, but we are in control of the present. What we choose to do with it is up to us.
